Crafting a music strategy for your small business is more than just playing background tunes—it’s about enhancing the customer experience and strengthening your brand identity. In this guide, we’ll walk you through the steps to develop a sound strategy that resonates with both your clientele and your business goals.

Understanding the Role of Music Strategy for Your Small Business

Music Strategy for Your Small Business plays a pivotal role in setting the mood and can significantly impact customer behavior and satisfaction. The right music can make your space more inviting, encouraging customers to stay longer and even return more frequently. It’s essential to choose genres and styles that complement the atmosphere you want to create.

Music also serves as a tool for emotional connection, subtly influencing how customers perceive your brand. Whether you’re aiming for a relaxing ambiance or a vibrant energy, your music selections are a direct communication of your brand’s personality to your customers.

Assessing Your Business’s Musical Needs

Begin by defining what you hope to achieve with your Music Strategy for Your Small Business. Are you looking to enhance a relaxed dining atmosphere in a cozy cafe, or do you need upbeat rhythms to energize a bustling retail space? Identifying your objectives will help tailor a music strategy that supports your business’s overall goals.

For instance, a small boutique in New York City’s SoHo district might opt for indie rock and avant-garde jazz to resonate with a trendy, fashion-forward clientele, while a family-owned restaurant in San Antonio, Texas, could choose Tejano and classic country tunes to reflect the local culture and create a warm, familiar atmosphere for diners.

Your customer demographic should also guide your music choices. Different age groups and cultural backgrounds may respond differently to various music styles, so it’s crucial to consider what will best appeal to your core audience.

By understanding the unique character and preferences of your location and audience, you can effectively use Music Strategy for Your Small Business to enhance the customer experience and strengthen your brand identity. This strategic approach not only attracts more customers but also builds a more loyal customer base by providing an environment that feels tailor-made for them.

Creating a Cohesive Music Identity

To establish a strong music identity, consistency across your playlists is crucial. Your Music Strategy for Your Small Business selections should act as an audible extension of your brand, reinforcing the values and vibes you aim to project with every note and beat. This means carefully choosing songs that not only suit the overall atmosphere of your space but also align with the messages and emotions you want to convey. For example, a high-end fashion retailer might feature cutting-edge electronic music to mirror its innovative and stylish aesthetic, whereas a rustic brewery might opt for classic rock or folk music to enhance its laid-back, traditional vibe.

Maintaining this cohesion is essential, not just from day to day but also across different areas of your business. Whether customers are entering, browsing, or at the point of sale, the music they hear should consistently echo your brand’s voice and tone. In a multi-level store, you might have more energetic, upbeat music on the ground floor to energize customers as they enter, while softer, more ambient tracks play in the upper levels where more intimate or high-end items are displayed. This strategic layering of music helps create a dynamic yet unified experience that customers can enjoy as they move through different parts of your business, enhancing their engagement and connection with your brand.

Leveraging Music for Marketing and Branding

Consider integrating music into your marketing strategies by curating playlists that align with specific promotions or seasonal events. This integration not only makes your marketing feel more immersive but also enhances the thematic elements of your campaigns.

Music Strategy for Your Small Business can also be a standout feature in your branding, distinguishing your business from competitors. A signature sound or a custom playlist can become as recognizable as your logo or color scheme, making your brand memorable.

Navigating Legalities: Licensing and Rights

Ensuring that your music is legally compliant is crucial. Playing Music Strategy for Your Small Business without the proper licensing can lead to hefty fines and legal issues. It’s important to understand the rights associated with different types of music and to secure the appropriate public performance licenses.

Services like Jukeboxy can help streamline this process, offering business-friendly music solutions that are both legal and tailored to your needs, ensuring that you can focus more on your business and less on legal intricacies.

Choosing the Right Technology and Equipment

Investing in high-quality sound equipment is essential to make the most of your Music Strategy for Your Small Business. Good audio quality enhances the listening experience, which can directly influence the ambiance of your space and customer satisfaction.

Select technology that fits the specific acoustics of your business premises. In larger spaces, consider zone-specific sound systems that can accommodate varying volume levels and styles to suit different areas of your business.

For businesses looking for flexibility and ease of installation, wireless speakers are an excellent choice. These can be easily integrated into various parts of the business without the need for extensive wiring, and they offer the convenience of controlling music remotely through apps.

Alternatively, wired speakers might be preferable for permanent installations where uninterrupted sound quality is critical. These are often used in larger spaces where a robust and reliable audio system is necessary to maintain consistent sound across different areas. Wired systems are particularly beneficial in environments where architectural acoustics play a significant role in the audio experience, allowing for more precise placement and sound adjustments that suit the specific acoustics of the business premises.

Analyzing and Adapting Your Music Strategy

Music Strategy for Your Small Business should not be static; it needs to adapt to changing business conditions and customer feedback. Regularly analyze how different playlists affect customer behavior and sales and be open to making adjustments based on what you learn.

Engage with your customers by asking for feedback on the music. This not only helps you fine-tune your approach but also makes your customers feel involved and valued, which can foster stronger customer loyalty.

Developing a strategic approach to music in your small business environment can dramatically enhance the customer experience and contribute to your overall success. At Jukeboxy, we understand the power of music and offer customized solutions that cater to the unique needs of small businesses. Discover the potential of a well-crafted music strategy with our 14-day free trial and see how the right tunes can transform your business atmosphere.

In today’s competitive retail landscape, background music for shopping is more than just an auditory filler; it’s a strategic element that enhances the customer experience, reinforces brand identity, and can even influence buying behavior. With the right seamless music integration, retailers can create a memorable shopping environment that encourages customers to stay longer and engage more deeply with their offerings. This article explores the essentials of commercial music streaming, the best Spotify playlists for retail stores, licensing and royalty compliance, and the benefits of multi-location music control.

The Role of Seamless Music Integration in Retail

Seamless music integration ensures that shoppers enjoy a continuous, uninterrupted musical experience as they move through different sections of a store. This consistency is crucial not only for maintaining the shopping mood but also for reinforcing brand identity across all store locations. Advanced commercial music streaming technologies allow retailers to manage playlists centrally, ensuring that each store reflects the brand’s unique aesthetic and values through background music for shopping.

Commercial Music Streaming: A Game Changer for Retailers

Commercial music streaming services have revolutionized the way background music for shopping is deployed in retail settings. Unlike traditional media, these platforms offer vast libraries of songs that can be tailored to fit any retail atmosphere or promotional activity. Retailers can select genres and tracks that align with seasonal campaigns, sales promotions, or specific times of the day, making the shopping experience more dynamic and engaging. The flexibility to update and modify playlists at will allows for immediate response to market trends and customer feedback, ensuring the musical backdrop is always fresh and relevant.

Additionally, these streaming services often come with features designed specifically for commercial users, such as ad-free streaming, high-quality audio, and the ability to create multiple user profiles for different store locations or departments. This functionality enhances the ability to manage music across a retail chain, providing a consistent auditory experience that can be controlled centrally or adjusted locally to meet specific needs. The result is a cohesive brand experience that resonates with customers and fosters a strong connection to the store environment, proving that the strategic use of music can be a significant asset in retail management.

Discovering the Best Spotify Playlists for Retail Stores

Spotify, one of the leading music streaming platforms, offers a variety of playlists that are perfect for retail environments. Playlists like “Indie Pop Shop,” “Electro Chill,” and “Classic Rock Coffee House” can set the right tone for your store, whether you’re aiming for an upbeat, energetic vibe or a more relaxed, inviting atmosphere. Retailers can experiment with different playlists to see which best resonates with their target demographic and enhances the overall background music for shopping experience. The availability of diverse musical selections allows stores to shift the ambiance throughout the day to match the changing flow of customers, from morning calm to evening rush, thereby maximizing the sensory impact on shoppers.

However, it is crucial for retailers to remember that Spotify is licensed only for personal use and not for playing music in public spaces, including business establishments. Using Spotify or similar consumer music services in a retail environment without the proper commercial license violates copyright laws and can result in significant fines. Retailers looking to leverage high-quality playlists legally should consider commercial music streaming services that offer similar vast selections but with the appropriate licensing for public and commercial use. These services ensure that businesses remain compliant with copyright laws while still providing a curated, engaging musical experience for customers.

Licensing and Royalty Compliance: Essential for Legal Streaming

One of the critical aspects of using background music in any commercial setting is ensuring compliance with licensing and royalty regulations. Retailers must secure the appropriate licenses from performing rights organizations (PROs) like ASCAP, BMI, or SESAC to legally play background music for shopping in their stores. This not only avoids legal penalties but also ensures that songwriters and artists are fairly compensated for their work, supporting the broader music industry.

Multi-location Music Control: Synchronizing the Shopping Experience

For retail chains operating multiple locations, maintaining consistent audio branding can be a challenge. Multi-location music control systems solve this problem by allowing centralized control of background music for shopping playlists across all stores. This technology enables managers to update playlists remotely and adjust the music to match marketing campaigns or store-specific events, ensuring a cohesive brand experience no matter where the stores are located. The ability to centrally control music ensures that all locations reflect the brand’s desired atmosphere and marketing objectives, providing a uniform customer experience that reinforces brand loyalty and recognition.

Advanced systems like Jukeboxy’s web-based dashboard offer a centralized multi-account dashboard specifically designed for organization admins and store managers. This allows for streamlined management of music across various stores with easy-to-use controls and real-time updates. Users can not only select and modify playlists but also schedule background music for shopping for different times of the day or special promotions, all from a single interface. This level of control is crucial for large retail chains seeking to minimize discrepancies in their customer experience and maximize the impact of their auditory branding efforts.

Enhancing Customer Experience Through Thoughtful Music Selection

The influence of music in retail stores on the customer experience and purchasing behavior cannot be overstated. The right background music for shopping can make stores feel more welcoming and influence the mood of shoppers. Slow tempos typically encourage leisurely browsing, which can increase the time customers spend in-store, while upbeat music might boost energy levels and enhance perceptions of sales and promotions. For instance, playing classical or instrumental electronic chill music in high-end boutiques can evoke a sense of luxury and exclusivity, while pop hits in a trendy fashion store can create a vibrant and youthful vibe. Ultimately, the goal is to use music strategically to create an environment that customers enjoy and where they are more likely to make purchases. By carefully selecting genres and tracks that resonate with the brand’s target audience, retailers can subtly guide customer behavior and improve overall satisfaction.

Research has shown that the strategic use of music extends to influencing key business outcomes such as increased sales, customer loyalty, repeat customers, and even employee motivation. Music that complements the shopping environment enhances the customer’s experience and positively affect their buying decisions, leading to increased sales. A welcoming and enjoyable background music for shopping ambiance can encourage customers to visit more frequently, fostering loyalty and turning occasional visitors into regulars. Additionally, a pleasant auditory environment can boost employee morale and productivity, creating a more dynamic and engaging workplace. These benefits illustrate the profound impact that thoughtful music selection can have on a retail business’s bottom line and overall brand perception.

Incorporating background music for shopping is not just about playing any music; it’s about curating musical experiences that align with brand values, enhance customer satisfaction, and drive sales. With the advent of commercial music streaming services and technologies for multi-location control, retailers have unprecedented control over how music is used in their stores. By ensuring legal compliance and choosing the right playlists, retailers can transform their stores into dynamic, enjoyable spaces that encourage customers to return time and again.

To facilitate this, Jukeboxy offers a specialized solution tailored for retail environments, ensuring that music selection is diverse, fully licensed and compliant with all legal requirements. With features like a centralized multi-account dashboard, Jukeboxy makes it easy to manage and synchronize music across multiple retail locations. Interested retailers can explore the benefits of Jukeboxy with a 14-day free trial, providing an opportunity to experience firsthand how the right background music can elevate the shopping experience and contribute to business success.

Amazon Music, launched by the e-commerce giant Amazon, has steadily grown to become a key player in the fiercely competitive music streaming industry. With a user base of over 82 million subscribers, Amazon Music offers a diverse range of streaming options that cater to individual listeners. However, businesses interested in leveraging the platform for commercial purposes must understand the nuances of licensing and royalty compliance. This article explores how Amazon Music functions as a personal use service and why businesses need to opt for commercially licensed music streaming services like Jukeboxy for public performance.

Understanding Amazon Music’s Service

Amazon Music provides several tiers of service, including Amazon Music Free, Amazon Music Prime, Amazon Music Unlimited, and Amazon Music HD, each offering various features tailored to different user needs. Amazon Music Unlimited, for example, offers an extensive library of over 100 million songs, curated playlists, and customized stations. This service, priced competitively, is designed to enhance the personal listening experience with high-quality audio and ad-free streaming.

Despite its expansive library and features, Amazon Music is explicitly intended for personal, non-commercial use. This means subscribers can enjoy music at home, during workouts, or on personal outings but are restricted from using the service to play music in a business setting, such as retail stores, restaurants, or hotels without additional licensing.

Amazon Music for Business and Licensing Challenges

For businesses, the use of music goes beyond mere entertainment; it’s a strategic tool to enhance brand experiences and connect with customers. However, playing music in a public setting requires adherence to specific licensing rules to ensure royalty compliance. These rules are governed by copyright law and necessitate public performance licenses from various copyright organizations.

The term “Amazon Music for Business” might suggest a business-ready solution, but Amazon Music does not currently offer a service specifically tailored for business users that includes public performance rights. This is a critical consideration for any establishment looking to use music as part of their business operations.

Music Streaming for Business and Jukeboxy

For businesses requiring music streaming, services like Jukeboxy present a legally compliant option. Jukeboxy is specifically designed to cater to the needs of businesses by providing commercially licensed music streaming. This includes securing all necessary public performance licenses, thereby ensuring that businesses are not only legally compliant but also support artists and music creators through proper royalty distribution.

Jukeboxy and similar services manage licensing agreements with performance rights organizations such as ASCAP, BMI, SESAC, and GMR in the U.S. This arrangement simplifies the process for businesses, as it removes the burden of managing multiple licenses and ensures that music played in commercial settings contributes to the livelihood of those who create it.

Licensing and Royalty Compliance in Business Music Streaming

Understanding licensing and royalty compliance is crucial for businesses using music. Non-compliance can lead to hefty fines and legal challenges, as copyright holders are vigilant in protecting their intellectual property. Licensed commercial music services like Jukeboxy handle these aspects, allowing businesses to focus on creating brand-enhancing music experiences without legal concerns.

The complexity of music licensing, particularly in a commercial setting, involves navigating multiple layers of rights management. Music played publicly in businesses typically requires both synchronization licenses and public performance licenses. Sync licenses are necessary when music is used in conjunction with any visual media output such as commercials or movies, whereas public performance licenses are required for playing music within public venues. Services like Jukeboxy streamline this process by securing these licenses beforehand, ensuring that all music played complies with legal standards. This comprehensive approach not only safeguards businesses against potential legal repercussions but also supports the music industry by ensuring that all stakeholders are compensated appropriately for their creations.

Brand-Enhancing Music Experiences with Amazon Music Licensed Services

Music is a powerful brand enhancer. The right background music can influence consumer behavior, extend the average time spent in-store, and significantly improve overall customer satisfaction and loyalty. Licensed music services for businesses are adept at curating playlists that resonate with a brand’s identity and customer base, turning music into a tool that supports business objectives.

In addition to these benefits, the strategic selection and use of music can effectively communicate a brand’s values and ethos to its customers. For instance, a luxury boutique might use classical or sophisticated jazz music to convey an atmosphere of exclusivity and high-end appeal, while a lively bar might opt for upbeat rock or pop to maintain an energetic vibe. Licensed music services such as Jukeboxy not only provide the legal backing for using such music but also have the expertise to help businesses choose genres and tracks that best align with the desired brand image. This tailored approach ensures that the music enhances the customer experience and amplifies the brand’s market presence, making it a critical component in the overall marketing and branding strategy.

While Amazon Music offers a robust service for personal use, businesses looking to utilize music effectively and legally in commercial settings need to look towards services like Jukeboxy. These services not only ensure compliance with licensing laws but also help in crafting brand-enhancing music experiences that can transform customer interactions and bolster business outcomes. Therefore, when considering music streaming for business, it is essential to choose a partner that aligns with legal standards and business aspirations.

Music as a Branding Tool

Music is an integral part of a brand’s identity, similar to logos and color schemes. It acts as an auditory logo that can evoke certain emotions and memories associated with your brand, enhancing overall brand identity.

As a business owner, your background music can significantly enhance the atmosphere and deeply connect with a diverse clientele. Understanding how to select music that resonates across cultural boundaries strategically is critical. Here, we will explore several essential considerations to help you choose the perfect musical backdrop for your varied audience. Cultural Considerations

Firstly, understanding the cultural background of your clientele is paramount. Each culture carries its unique musical traditions and preferences. Incorporating various musical styles, such as Latin rhythms, Afrobeat grooves, or Asian fusion elements, can enrich the auditory experience, making your space welcoming and resonant for people from different parts of the world.

The purpose or theme of your venue or event also heavily influences your music selection. Whether you’re setting the scene for a corporate function, a wedding reception, or a community gathering, the music should appropriately reflect the event’s tone. Opt for softer, instrumental melodies for formal settings or lively, upbeat tracks for more casual or celebrative events. This alignment ensures the music complements rather than clashes with the atmosphere.

Considering your audience’s demographics, especially their age range, is crucial. Music preferences can vary significantly across different age groups. A well-curated playlist that spans multiple eras or genres will appeal to a broader audience, ensuring everyone finds something that resonates with their personal or cultural background.

Staying abreast of current music trends while tapping into popular classics can help keep your music selection fresh and familiar. It’s beneficial to regularly update your playlists and incorporate new musical trends that resonate with a global audience, ensuring that your music selection remains engaging and relevant. Cultural Considerations

Engaging with your clientele to understand their preferences can provide invaluable insights into their music tastes. Consider gathering feedback through surveys or informal conversations. This direct input can guide your music choices, ensuring they truly reflect the tastes and preferences of your audience.

By considering these factors – cultural diversity, event purpose, demographic preferences, and current trends – you can craft a music strategy that avoids cultural faux pas and enhances the customer experience. This approach not only respects the diverse backgrounds of your audience but also celebrates them, creating an inclusive and enjoyable atmosphere for all.

As you curate your playlists, remember that music is a powerful tool for creating connections and fostering an inviting environment. With the proper selection, you can ensure your business remains a vibrant, welcoming space for everyone, irrespective of their cultural background. Embrace the diversity of your clientele and let music be the universal language that brings people together in your establishment.

Music’s Diverse Landscape

Music’s realm is as vast as the human experience, encompassing an array of genres that resonate with listeners worldwide. Each genre not only defines a unique sound but also embodies distinct cultural, social, and historical elements. In this exploration, we uncover the essence of five key music genres that have significantly influenced the global music scene: Rock, Pop, Hip-Hop, Electronic, and Country. These genres offer a wide range of auditory experiences and also serve as a mirror to societal changes and personal expression. Through their sonic definition, we gain insight into the profound impact of music on our lives.

Rock: The Sound of Rebellion

Rock music, born in the 1950s, quickly became the anthem of youth and rebellion. Characterized by its bold electric guitar riffs, dynamic rhythms, and emphatic vocals, Rock has evolved through decades, spawning various sub-genres and influencing countless artists. Legends like Led Zeppelin and The Rolling Stones laid the foundation, while contemporary acts like Foo Fighters and Muse continue to push the genre’s boundaries, proving Rock’s enduring appeal and transformative power.

Pop: The Universal Language of Catchiness

Five Music Genres

Pop music stands out for its broad appeal, catchy melodies, and memorable hooks. This genre, fluid in its definition, often incorporates elements from other styles, making it ever-evolving and relatable. Icons such as Madonna and Michael Jackson to modern stars like Taylor Swift and Justin Bieber have demonstrated Pop’s ability to capture the zeitgeist, producing timeless tracks that transcend generational divides.

Hip-Hop: Rhythms with a Message

The Hip Hop genre originated in the 1970s in the Bronx, New York City, as a cultural movement among African American, Latin American, and Caribbean American communities. Hip-Hop has grown from its roots in rhythmic poetry and beatboxing to dominate the global music landscape.

With its powerful lyrical content, Hip-Hop acts as a voice for social commentary and personal stories, illustrated by artists like Tupac Shakur, Jay-Z, and Kendrick Lamar. This genre’s influence extends beyond music, shaping fashion, language, and culture.

Electronic: The Future of Soundscapes

Five Music Genres

Electronic music, with its synthesized sounds and beat-driven compositions, showcases the innovative use of technology in music. Covering an array of sub-genres like house, techno, and dubstep, electronic music delivers a variety of sonic experiences, from soothing ambient sounds to beats that energize the dance floor.

Artists such as Daft Punk and Calvin Harris have popularized the genre, highlighting its versatility and its potential to create new sonic dimensions.

Country: Stories of Heart and Home

Five Music Genres

Rooted in American folk traditions, Country music narrates tales of love, loss, and everyday life with heartfelt lyrics and acoustic melodies. The genre’s rich history features legends like Johnny Cash and Dolly Parton, while contemporary figures like Carrie Underwood and Luke Combs carry the torch, ensuring Country’s relevance and resonance with audiences worldwide.

Enhancing Your Playlist with Jukeboxy

Music holds a magical power, especially in the lives of children. It transcends mere entertainment, embedding deep into the cognitive, cultural, and moral fibers of young minds. From the moment a lullaby soothes a newborn to sleep, to the classroom where a simple song teaches the alphabet, music is there, shaping, guiding, and enriching.

Cognitive Crescendos: The Role of Music in Learning and Development

The impact of music on cognitive development is profound. When children engage in musical activities—be it singing, dancing, or playing an instrument—they are not just having fun; they are undergoing a rigorous workout for their brains. This melodic exercise enhances memory, attention span, and even problem-solving skills. It’s akin to a mental gym where every note and rhythm strengthens neural pathways, fostering creativity and intelligence.

Moreover, music for children acts as a bridge to language learning. The repetitive patterns and catchy melodies of children’s songs accelerate vocabulary building, improve pronunciation, and enrich linguistic skills. It’s remarkable how tunes from our childhood stay with us, demonstrating music’s incredible stickiness and its capacity to aid in learning and retention.

Cultural Chords: Fostering Diversity Through Melody

Beyond individual development, music is a vibrant thread in the cultural fabric, connecting diverse traditions and values. Through exposure to various musical genres, children gain a panoramic view of the world’s rich tapestry of cultures. This musical voyage cultivates an appreciation for different artistic expressions, laying the groundwork for empathy and global understanding.

Songs from different corners of the world bring unique stories and customs into children’s lives, promoting cultural awareness and respect. This melodic mosaic not only entertains but also educates, building bridges between disparate worlds and fostering a sense of unity in diversity.

Moral Melodies: Instilling Values Through Song

Perhaps one of the most enchanting aspects of music for children is its ability to convey moral lessons. Songs tailored for children often carry themes of kindness, sharing, and environmental stewardship, embedding these values in young hearts through catchy lyrics and melodies. This musical approach to moral education is both effective and enjoyable, making the lessons memorable and impactful.

As children sing about helping others or taking care of the planet, they internalize these messages, transforming them into actions. Music for children, therefore, becomes a gentle teacher, guiding young souls toward empathy, integrity, and social responsibility.

Encore: Embracing the Symphony of Learning

Music for children is a powerful instrument of education and growth. It enriches their minds, introduces them to the vast world of cultures, and shapes their character. By integrating music into children’s lives, we offer them a gift that keeps on giving—inspiring them to learn, embrace diversity, and live with kindness.

Let’s encourage the exploration of this musical universe, where every note holds the potential to inspire, teach, and transform. For in the realm of music, children find not only joy and entertainment but also the building blocks for a bright, understanding, and compassionate future.

When it comes to playing music for your business, it’s important to be aware of the legalities and licensing requirements involved. While many individuals are familiar with personal music streaming services like Spotify, it’s crucial to understand that using them in a commercial setting is not permitted. In this blog post, we will explore the limitations of Spotify for business use and highlight the importance of proper licensing. To address the licensing challenges faced by businesses Jukeboxy offers music for business while considering licensing solutions, ensuring a seamless and legal music experience.

The Licensing Limitations Challenge

First of all, no such thing as Spotify for business exists! Commercial use of personal digital music streaming services, including Spotify, for playing music in your spotify business account is not allowed. As stated in Spotify’s Terms & Conditions :

Subject to your compliance with these Terms (including any other applicable terms and conditions), we grant to you limited, non-exclusive, revocable permission to make personal, non-commercial use of the Spotify Service and the Content (collectively, “Access”). This Access shall remain in effect unless and until terminated by you or Spotify. You agree that you will not redistribute or transfer the Spotify Service or the Content.

The Spotify software applications and the Content are licensed, not sold or transferred to you, and Spotify and its licensors retain ownership of all copies of the Spotify software applications and Content even after installation on your Devices.”

As seen, Spotify’s terms of service strictly state that their platform is for personal, non-commercial use only. Using a regular Spotify account to provide background music for your business could potentially result in legal consequences, including significant financial penalties.

Understanding Licensing Rights

ASCAP, BMI, and other performing rights organizations are essential in enabling the commercial use of music. Obtaining licenses from these organizations grants businesses the legal rights to publicly perform music from their vast catalogs while ensuring fair compensation for creators. With Jukeboxy, businesses can simplify the licensing process as Jukeboxy takes care of ASCAP, BMI, SESAC, GMR and other necessary licensing requirements. By partnering with Jukeboxy, businesses can enjoy a seamless and legally compliant music experience, knowing that their licensing needs are being handled by experts in the field.

Consequences of Unlicensed Use

Using Pandora, Spotify, or an unlicensed music collection for commercial purposes exposes business owners to legal risks. Violating copyright laws can lead to lawsuits, with potential penalties ranging from tens to hundreds of thousands of dollars. It’s essential for business owners to understand the regulations surrounding music licensing and to seek legal alternatives to avoid such liabilities.

“ASCAP has filed lawsuits against Fatpour in Wicker Park and Kirkwood Bar in Lakeview, seeking $150,000 in damages for not purchasing a license to play songs, according to DNAInfo. According to the complaint, ASCAP repeatedly reached out to both bars in an attempt to have them submit into full compliance with the organization. A license for Fatpour would cost $2,800 a year while Kirkwood’s would cost $1,100 a year.”

These are not arbitrary selections; they are reflections, echoing your identity, resonating with your experiences, and amplifying the unseen, unspoken parts of your soul. The Harmonious Blend: Christmas Music in Businesses during the Holiday Season

The holiday season is a time of joy, celebration, and togetherness. It’s a period when businesses transform their spaces into festive wonderlands, adorned with twinkling lights, dazzling decorations, and the unmistakable sounds of Christmas music. For many, this auditory experience is as crucial to the holiday ambiance as the visual elements. However, the challenge for businesses lies not just in playing Christmas music but in doing so in a way that complements their brand identity and resonates with their customers.

Maintaining Brand Identity

One of the key considerations for businesses during the holiday season is to keep their brand’s vibe consistent. In an era when brand identity is meticulously curated, it’s essential to ensure that every aspect of the business, including the music, aligns with the established image. For instance, if a retail store typically fills its spaces with upbeat electronic music that energizes its customers, abruptly switching to slow, traditional Christmas carols could be jarring and incongruent with the brand’s identity.

To address this challenge, businesses can turn to curated holiday music playlists that match their brand’s personality. Platforms like Jukeboxy offer a wide range of Christmas music options, including genre-specific playlists like “Christmas Electronic Dance.” This allows businesses to infuse the holiday spirit into their spaces without compromising their unique vibe. The carefully curated playlists on Jukeboxy offer a seamless transition from their regular music to festive tracks, creating a harmonious blend that customers can appreciate.

Motivating Employees with Variety

Another aspect of the holiday season that often goes overlooked is the impact on employee morale. It’s a time when businesses need their staff to be at their best, providing excellent customer service, and radiating positive energy. However, playing the same Christmas playlist on repeat throughout the day and the entire holiday season can become monotonous, leading to reduced motivation among employees.

Jukeboxy offers a solution with its weekly scheduling tool. This innovative feature allows businesses to mix and match different playlists throughout the day. By diversifying the musical experience for employees, businesses can keep their spirits high and maintain a dynamic atmosphere. For instance, they can start the day with soothing holiday classics, transition to more upbeat tracks during peak shopping hours, and wind down with mellow tunes as the day concludes.

This variety not only keeps employees motivated but also caters to the diverse demographics of customers who visit the business. Different customers have different preferences, and by offering a range of musical experiences, businesses can create a welcoming environment that resonates with a broader audience.

Creating a Memorable Christmas Playlist

Christmas 23 The Harmonious Blend

Creating a memorable Christmas playlist that aligns with your brand identity and keeps employees and customers engaged is crucial. Here’s a section where Jukeboxy can help you get started with a curated list of Christmas tracks tailored to your needs:

Jukeboxy’s Christmas Playlist Recommendations:

1. Christmas – Electronic Beats: Kick off your holiday season with high-energy electronic Christmas tracks. These tunes infuse the spirit of the season with a modern twist, aligning perfectly with your brand’s energetic vibe.

2. Christmas – Rat Pack & Friends: For a touch of nostalgia, mix in some classic crooners like Frank Sinatra and Bing Crosby. Their timeless melodies can add a warm and inviting ambiance to your space.

3. Christmas – Pop: To appeal to a younger demographic, incorporate contemporary pop hits by artists like Mariah Carey and Ariana Grande. These songs are catchy and instantly recognizable, creating a festive atmosphere.

4. Christmas – Instrumental: During quieter moments, transition to soothing instrumental holiday music. This provides a calming backdrop for shoppers and creates a serene shopping experience.

5. Christmas – Country: Embrace the heartwarming charm of the holiday season with country-infused Christmas tracks. From twangy guitars to heartfelt lyrics, this playlist adds a touch of rustic nostalgia to your brand’s holiday atmosphere.

6. Christmas – Non-denominational: Create an inclusive and welcoming holiday environment with non-denominational Christmas music. These tracks celebrate the universal themes of joy, love, and togetherness, appealing to a diverse range of customers.

Jukeboxy goes above and beyond by offering a vast selection of over twenty different Christmas playlists, spanning genres like French, Latin, Kids, Rock, Pop, Upbeat, Mid-tempo, and Relaxing. This diversity allows you to curate a holiday soundtrack that precisely matches your brand’s identity and caters to the unique preferences of your customers.

Remember, the key to a successful Christmas playlist is balance and variety. By mixing and matching these elements, you can create a memorable musical backdrop that enhances your brand’s identity, keeps your employees motivated, and resonates with a wide range of customers. This holiday season, let the music be a harmonious part of your business’s festive celebration.

‘Tis the Season for Festive Tunes

With the holiday season fast approaching, it’s that magical time when businesses start embracing the spirit of Christmas—decorations go up, festive promotions begin, and Christmas music fills the air. However, creating the perfect holiday atmosphere through music isn’t as simple as pressing play on a holiday playlist. In this article, we’ll share valuable insights on how to use Christmas music effectively, ensuring your customers feel the joy and your employees stay motivated throughout this busy time.

The Impact of Holiday Music on Shoppers and Employees

Music plays a critical role in shaping the atmosphere of any business, particularly during the holiday season. For customers, holiday music can create a festive and welcoming environment that encourages them to stay longer and enjoy their shopping experience. Studies have shown that the right background music can positively influence consumer behavior, increasing the likelihood of impulse buys and boosting overall sales. Playing Christmas tunes can help put shoppers in a positive, nostalgic mood, enhancing their overall impression of your store.

However, while holiday music may be a hit with customers, it can have the opposite effect on employees. Workers who are exposed to the same repetitive holiday songs over long shifts may find the constant loop demotivating, potentially leading to burnout. This is why it’s important to strike a balance—mixing holiday tracks with non-seasonal music can maintain a festive atmosphere without overwhelming employees. By being mindful of the needs of both your customers and your staff, you can create a more enjoyable and productive environment for everyone.

Christmas Music Beyond the Classics

Gone are the days when holiday playlists were limited to the same handful of Christmas classics like “Let It Snow” and “Jingle Bells.” Before the digital music revolution, businesses had to rely on a few repetitive albums, with the same songs performed by different artists. Today, with access to an expansive library of Christmas music spanning genres like jazz, pop, country, and indie, businesses can offer much more variety. This allows for fresh and exciting playlists that not only keep customers engaged but also prevent employee fatigue from hearing the same tunes on repeat. Mixing in different styles of Christmas music can create a festive yet dynamic atmosphere, injecting energy and enthusiasm into the holiday season.

Tailoring Christmas Playlists to Fit Your Business

Choosing the right Christmas playlist for your business is key to creating an atmosphere that resonates with your clientele. If your retail shop targets a younger crowd, a 1970s Christmas soundtrack may fall flat, while playing traditional carols in a lively beer garden could feel out of place. Fortunately, there’s a wide range of Christmas music available today across genres like pop, rock, jazz, and country. Every year, new holiday tracks from contemporary artists like Justin Bieber, Alessia Cara, and the Jonas Brothers add fresh options to your playlists.

Selecting the right type of music can keep your customers engaged and help them stay longer. Fresh and varied Christmas playlists not only enhance the customer experience but also contribute to employee motivation by preventing the fatigue that comes from hearing the same songs repeatedly throughout the season. Crafting playlists that fit your business can make the holiday season more enjoyable for everyone.

How to Design the Perfect Atmosphere for your Coffee Shop? A coffee shop must have an eye for design. There may even be other reasons people visit coffee shops apart from drinking coffee. The environment and how you present your products play a significant role in attracting customers through your doors. There is nothing more satisfying than achieving your dreams after investing thousands of dollars, putting in hard work, and remembering that little details matter as much as the products you sell.

Attractive characteristics of your establishment, like scent and mood, may increase foot traffic and sales. Furthermore, a robust design and layout of your coffee shop will help you stay in people’s minds, encouraging return visitors. From the furniture to the espresso bar, ambient lighting to the background music in your coffee shop has a noticeable effect on how your customers enjoy their beverages.

Here’s what you need to look out for when creating the best atmosphere in your coffee shop.

background-music-for-coffee-shops

Step #1: Plan the layout with attention

What does this mean? A great ambiance is not just something that happens by chance. A good layout is at the heart of a great atmosphere. Look at your plans through the eyes of your customers long before you sign any contracts with interior builders. Which features are most important to customers? Are there features that make things easy for them?

For example, confusion over where to order is often a source of trouble. The presence of an order counter near the entrance helps customers feel less lost as soon as they enter. Ensure that people have easy access to the condiment counter and a trash can where they can quickly flavor their coffee without reaching over to other patrons or objects.

Ideally, your coffee shop should be bright and clean, with plenty of natural light and comfortable seating. Provide seating to single customers and groups of various sizes with a mix of seating and table types.

Consider hiring a professional interior decorator for layout, furniture, and flooring, if you have no prior design experience. When your coffee shop has a distinctive, personal touch that separates your establishment from nearby ones, it will draw more customers.

Step #2: The right colors to use

Experienced baristas and delicious cappuccinos or lattes will attract customers surely, but your decor should also be appealing to customers on a holistic level.

Once the store’s layout is finished, the next step should be figuring out the color scheme.

It can be time-consuming to decide on a suitable color palette for your coffee shop. But don’t worry, we gathered some well-researched information below that we believe can help you make a decision pretty quickly.

Based on market studies, an earthy color scheme is a classic choice for many coffee shop owners to provide a relaxed and welcoming coffee shop. You can find browns, beige, umber, and dark orange shades in this palette.

On the other hand, if you are creating a unique coffee shop atmosphere than a classic one, you can mix the earthy tones with brighter colors. You can use beige and brown shades with teal, turquoise, or reds. However, the bright colors should not empower the entire atmosphere and should be used minimally as accent colors.

background music provider

Step #3: Choose the lighting wisely

Choosing the right lights for your cafe is a great way to create the mood you want. Instead of regular bulbs, you can install dimmers to create ambient lighting throughout the day. Adding attractive ceiling lamps instead of spot or industrial lights will add extra appeal and help to create a great coffee shop ambiance.

Whenever possible, you should utilize natural lighting to take advantage of organic light and save energy at the same time. If natural light is

not available in your store, you can use cool-toned lighting as they create a similar look and feel to daylight. Cool lighting is also a good choice for reading and studying.

Warm and soft-toned lighting is a good choice for the evening hours.

They create a more comforting atmosphere in a dark room due to their gentle contrast from the darkness. For example, Starbucks stores usually use dimmed lighting to create a cozy ambiance.

Step #4: The importance of scents

It shouldn’t surprise anyone that the smell of a café is an integral part of the overall experience for coffee shop customers. The scent of freshly brewed coffee or pastries often attracts passersby. It is not just important to attract new customers, but it is also essential to keep them.

Adding pleasant scents to your coffee shop can also encourage people to linger around for longer. For example, almost every retail store, including coffee shops, uses holiday-themed fragrances to lure people into the stores during the holiday season. The scent of spice, vanilla, or pumpkin is a known marketing strategy to capture the holiday mood and eventually increase sales.

Step #5: Coffee shop background music

Science has repeatedly proven that you need to impress your customers through all their senses to be successful. To thrive in a competitive market, tasteful decor, scent marketing, or excellent customer service will not be enough. The create the perfect atmosphere in your coffee shop, you need to implement the fitting soundtrack for your business.

The background music at a retail shop is an integral part of the marketing strategy, and it’s no different for a coffee shop. However, choosing the right music for coffee shop is vital.

How to Design the Perfect Atmosphere for your Coffee Shop? What to consider when choosing the music for coffee shop?

There is no one playlist or genre fits all mentality anymore. You may hear a piece of excellent background music at one coffee shop and think it would fit yours perfectly, but it may not! While choosing the playlists for your coffee shop, consider these:

Who is your target market? The young generation, old generation, or a mix?

What makes your coffee shop different than the others? Gourmet coffee beans, attractive interiors, energetic baristas? The music should fit the brand.

How early and how late your coffee shop is open? The early crowd needs different types of music than the late crowd. Consider creating a different playlist schedule for the entire day and the week.

We highly recommend working with a professional background music service provider for all these reasons mentioned above. But, there’s more to consider when choosing the music service provider for your coffee shop.

Every business, including the coffee shops, must obtain background music licenses by ASCAP, BMI, SESAC, and GMR. When you subscribe to a commercially licensed background music service provider, they will pay for your licenses on your behalf, and you won’t have to worry about getting hefty fines.

On the other hand, if you choose to play Spotify, Apple Music, or YouTube without obtaining these licenses, you can face harsh penalties. You can read more here.

These services are not commercially licensed. You can only use them for your own entertainment, as you can read on their terms and conditions page.

How to Design the Perfect Atmosphere for your Coffee Shop? We recommend Jukeboxy’s business music streaming service, which you can join in just a few minutes with a $29.99 monthly subscription. The Jukeboxy Manager App comes with a “DJ SET” feature that lets you create unlimited playlists based on mood, tempo, genre, and decade. Adding these custom sets to your weekly auto-play schedule will allow you to mix them with other playlists or play them individually. It is also possible to transfer your playlists to Jukeboxy. With Jukeboxy Music, you can share any custom playlist you have on Spotify or Apple Music for no additional charge.

Summary

A coffee shop with these simple characteristics is usually all that customers need to make a space that is appealing and cozy where they can enjoy coffee with a sense of comfort. Don’t forget the proper layout, an inviting color palette, the lighting, the scents, and the background music to make your coffee shop atmosphere inviting and customer-retaining.

As more states have legalized cannabis for medical and recreational use, legal sales of cannabis in the U.S. grew by 46% in 2020 and 40% in 2021. As the market has expanded, dispensaries have become more sophisticated and streamlined to meet the changing market demand.

Dispensaries need background music that fits their more streamlined appearance and better addresses their expanding clientele. But where to start when finding music for cannabis dispensaries? In this article, we strive to show your business where to begin when choosing background music for marijuana dispensaries.

How many states have legalized both recreational Cannabis and Medical Cannabis?

Before even choosing a soundtrack for business use in the cannabis dispensaries, it is crucial to understand the laws and regulations around marijuana in your State. Currently, recreational use of cannabis is legal in 20 States, and medical use of cannabis is legal in 36 states and four territories.

Soon more states will allow for either medical, recreational, or both types of marijuana use. It is difficult to argue that opening a marijuana dispensary to meet this increased demand is a terrific idea.

cannabis store background music

Who is visiting the dispensaries?

Knowing your clientele is another critical area to consider before picking the perfect type of music for your dispensary. The base statistics appear to look like this:

Millennials – 51.5% (23-38)*

Generation X – 25.7% (39-54)*

Baby Boomers – 15.8% (55-73)*

Gen Z – 5.9% (23 or younger)*

*Paratheis specify each generation’s age range

So, now that you know the age range of your clients, there is more to the story. Now, you would need to consider gender. According to research, men are much more likely to buy cannabis or cannabis-related products (ranging from 60%-67%). Men are also more likely to purchase recreational products, like marijuana concentrates (70%). On the other hand, women are likely to spend more on CBD products (66% more than men). A fun fact; a recent Nielsen Consumer Behavior Study has shown that 74% of people who purchase CBD products own dogs or cats. Who knew!? Maybe canine friends should be considered when picking the music for your business!

What music should you play in your dispensary?

Given the uniqueness of your business, addressing the question of what type of music for marijuana dispensaries you should play may not be easy.

First, let us address the elephant in the room. There is a common misconception that all people who use marijuana are “stoners” who only listen to music genres such as Hip-Hop/Rap or Reggae. Popularized mainly by modern pop culture in movies and rap song lyrics, this is simply nothing but a myth. In 2021, the people who use marijuana stretch over a wide range of cultures, religions, races, ages, everything! That is why most dispensaries should play a wide variety of music genres to accommodate vastly different groups of people. Especially in the states where marijuana is legal for both medical and recreational use, it is important to play music that appeals to an array of clients.

Playing from a range of musical genres will allow your business to reach all types of clients without singling out any groups. Additionally, you may want to customize your business’s music genres to match your region. For instance, it would be more beneficial to play more pop-country hits in Colorado than in New York. It can be tricky to find the balance between appealing to a varied clientele and alienating some clientele by narrowing your focus too much.

On the other hand, if appealing to a particular population segment is your business’s goal, you can use music to help you do that. Suppose you are in a state where recreational use is legal, and you want to take over the niche market of the younger and hipper crowd that uses marijuana recreationally. In that case, choosing a genre that specifically attracts your target group is crucial.

For instance, in a more urban area, playing more Hip-Hop/Rap than Reggae would allow more success as you specifically target your demographic and location. If your business is located in a more rural or suburban area playing more Classic Rock or Country could aid in your success in that niche market.

Music for Marijuana Dispensaries

Finally, one last large group of dispensaries needs a slightly different approach. In states where marijuana use is only legal for medical use, the dispensary’s music shouldn’t be exactly like the music for the other dispensaries we have just talked about above. For the dispensaries selling marijuana exclusively for medical purposes, it is most beneficial to play soft background music regardless of geographic location.

When playing background music for businesses serving a medical needs clientele, a calming and non-intrusive atmosphere is best, and music plays an important role. Like a local pharmacy, the customers of a medical marijuana dispensary are going to collect their medication. It just happens to be marijuana as opposed to pills. Picking up a prescription is never a task that is for fun. It is just an errand that needs to be completed. Like any task that doesn’t require much mental effort, the music shouldn’t take much effort to listen to. The music should just fade into the back of the customer’s mind.

So, where can your business find the right music?

Just as there are many rules and regulations governing the marijuana dispensary business, many rules and regulations apply to the commercial use of music for your business.

That is where Juxeboxy Music for Business comes in.

With a Jukeboxy Music subscription, the background music in уоur business will be fully licensed by ASCAP, BMI, SESAC, GMR, and SOCAN. No matter where your dispensary is located within the USA or Canada, or the clientele you are serving, there is no better option to find the right commercially licensed music for dispensaries than Jukeboxy. How to Design the Perfect Atmosphere for Your Bakery? Did you know that the first bakers’ guild was established in 168 BC in Rome? Even in the Roman Empire period, baking for commercial reasons was a popular income-generating business. Whether it’s for our own consumption or for business, baking has become more popular since the 1920s.

Today, we see a bakery at every corner, if not more. How can a bakery stand out from others when there is so much competition? Undoubtedly, one of the most important aspects is your bakery’s atmosphere. Creating an appealing atmosphere in your store needs time, research and professional help like an interior designer.

Its environment and atmosphere are critical to a bakery’s success and profitability. Although it’s easy to get distracted by the specifics of the design or the layout of the storefront, it’s vital to make sure the bakery itself enhances the experience of its customers.

The decor of your bakery will determine how customers perceive their experience, which can impact both the buying experience and the return on investment.

Designing a bakery can be a fun and rewarding venture. If you take the time to do it right, it will be profitable, too. Imagine baking a cake without the necessary tools, which is not a great idea, right? The same goes for creating the right design and atmosphere for your bakery. If you don’t invest in the time and the money, the store will be mediocre and will look like any other bakery in your neighborhood.

We’ve got the recipe for creating the perfect atmosphere for your shop. We created this article to help you establish a successful bakery. How to Design the Perfect Atmosphere for Your Bakery? Read on.

The Basics

The design of your bakery serves to welcome your customers and promote your brand. Making your cake/pastry shop stand out with a few simple design basics can help convert first-time visitors into regular customers. Here’s what to look out for:

  1. Start from the Entryway and the Storefront

2017 research by UCD food scientists shows that freshly baked bread’s smell brings “odor-cued memories” and boosts Pavlovian response and impulse buying.

For that reason, we recommend incorporating Dutch or half doors and a vent fan above the door which can help lure passersby with the aroma of freshly baked goods. Also, the entryway of your bakery should be spacious enough to provide enough space for multiple people to line up.

If you have enough storefront space, placing display cases for your baked goods might help bring in more shoppers. Including different types of goods is an excellent idea to let the window shoppers know what you can offer.

Do you create custom cake designs for birthdays or anniversaries? Showing quality prints of your designs in lovely frames on the walls is another idea to bring more customers who need customized cakes.

  1. Make Sure It Has Good Lighting

Lighting is another essential aspect of a successful bakery. Bakers often invest in high-quality display cases; however, without good lighting, the brilliance of food colors will not be as vivid. High-quality lighting also helps preserve the freshness and appearance of baked goods.

However, the lighting of the bakery is not limited to the display cases. There should be a consistent light color throughout the store. To create a welcoming atmosphere, use the same light colors across the store; some areas may have more lights and some less, but it is crucial to choose the same light colors. Our suggestion is to stay away from fluorescents. Fluorescents have green-yellow and magenta cast, and your baked goods and the store will not look good in that bulb color.

  1. Make the Space Happier

Two things belong here: colors and plants.

It would help if you considered adding color to the interior, as color adds life to any space. Think about adding color to your walls, windows, floors, tables, chairs, etc. Use colors that match your brand identity. For example, if you sell cupcakes, you can create a colorful space with pinks, blues, and oranges. Cupcakes are fun to look at and eat, so why not provide a fun atmosphere to your customers?

If you’re aiming to create a high-end bakery feel, then black and white colors with French bistro-style seating will do the job.

Light colors, such as cream, beige, white, or pale yellow, create the illusion of a bigger room. We recommend using soft tones to make the space look more spacious and inviting if you have a smaller store.

You can also add an accent wall within the color scheme. Your bakery will appear uncluttered to visitors if you use a simple color palette with one dominant or accent color.

Plants! Adding plants or flowers will add a great touch to your bakery. If you use fresh herbs in your baked goods like thyme, mint, or rosemary, you can create a corner for small planters and use the fresh herbs to decorate the baked goods.

  1. Create a Comfortable Environment

Customers need to feel comfortable while shopping at your bakery; whether they are there for dining or take-out, making them feel comfortable is crucial. Take-out customers need space to move around and look at the displays to make their selections. Sit-down customers need comfortable seating and friendly staff to enjoy your bakery and potentially come back.

If you have a small space, we recommend not overcrowding the seating area. Passageways between tables and chairs should be 18 inches wide. An overcrowded aisle can result in an uncomfortable experience for customers, and it may negatively impact sales. Instead, you can offer reservations for seated customers. This way, they won’t get disappointed when there is no space to sit.

Ventilation is another essential aspect to consider when designing the perfect atmosphere for a bakery. Without proper ventilation, you could end up with a lot of heat buildup inside your bakery, which will result in uncomfortable employees and customers.

  1. Get Creative with Your Decoration and Your Display Cases

  • Baskets are a fantastic way to display items such as pastries. They come in all shapes and sizes, so you’ll never run out of options. Don’t be afraid to decorate with baskets.
  • Bakeries specializing in wedding cakes can display photos of local couples cutting their cakes. If your bakery specializes in English tea cakes, choose wall art from England to showcase its nationality.
  • Display cases are typically made of glass or metal. If you can find a custom display case maker, you can order the ones in your brand’s color, matching the general atmosphere of the store.

The Advanced Level

How to Design the Perfect Atmosphere for Your Bakery?

  1. Use Mirrors Like the Pros

Mirrors behind the counter are a great design idea. They reflect light, enhancing the displays and increasing the sense of space. Displaying a custom design cake in front of a mirror will show customers both the front and the rear of the cake.

  1. Improve Customer Flow with a Bakery Floor Plan

Designers suggest that the bakery isles should be at least 4 feet wide to prevent congestion. However, they shouldn’t be too long either. A study shows that if customers feel your aisles are too long, they may skip the aisle, which may be over as much as 2 percent of your products.

Making your aisles shorter but not congested will allow your customers to engage more with your products and help in increased sales.

  1. Background music in a bakery can be the cherry on top

Engaging a customer’s five senses in your bakery will surely help your bakery succeed. You are already providing them with the sight, smell, taste, and even touch with your baked goods. Why not appeal to their fifth sense? The sound! We recommend adding a brand-matching soundtrack for your business to achieve this.

Pleasant, brand-fitting background music for a bakery will complement the interior design and the atmosphere.

Imagine a French bakery with excellent Parisian decor and French pastries but no music. The customers will hear lots of chatter and utensil noises while trying to enjoy the pastry and maybe a friend’s company. Not so great, right?

Now, imagine the same French bakery with an excellent choice of background music. Imagine eating a “tarte aux framboise” accompanied by a French Chanson by Edith Piaf. You will feel transported to Paris when you are at the bakery and leave feeling fabulous, right? Wouldn’t you go to that same bakery the next time?

Bonus Read: Impact of background music on businesses

Let us help you find the fitting background music for your bakery. American, French, Italian; every bakery needs to have background music that matches its characteristics and target market.

Extra: Playlist Samples

If you’re thinking, “OK, I’ll turn on the radio, YouTube, or Spotify,” you’re on the wrong track. Firstly, these services are not commercially licensed providers, which means there can be severe penalties for using them in a business environment. Secondly, it’s not going to sound very professional if you’re playing the music just to play it. A non-curated, any type of music will not do any good for your bakery.

The best way to do this is to subscribe to Jukeboxy’s business music service, which gives you a vast music library (45+ million tracks) and hundreds of curated playlists. You don’t have to spend hours choosing what music to play, you can set up the service in minutes and impress your customers.

Living in a condo building vs. house living is a matter of preference for most, but it is also a matter of lifestyle. According to research, more and more people live in an apartment building than at any point over the last 50 years.

Condo living comes with many benefits like easy maintenance, increased security, community connection, and great amenities such as a gym, pool, or clubhouse. With an increased interest in condo living, residential buildings need to appeal to current and future residents to compete with their competitors.

For the people who live in your residential complex, the quality of the living spaces is vitally important. But amenities are also essential. A 2017 study conducted by the National Multifamily Housing Council and Kingsley discovered that tenants would move to another building if they found a property with the right mix of amenities. Offering background music in addition to the amenities in your apartment complex can help set it apart from the competition.

Let’s look at the benefits of streaming background music in a residential building.

Conveys quality

The following criteria come to mind when it comes to high-quality housing, which is the same for all high-end buildings.

  • Materials and fittings of high-quality used for construction
  • Well-designed interior built with ergonomic design
  • Well utilized spaces

Putting a residential building ahead of its competitors in the current market will take more effort than just these criteria. The friendly, helpful, and respectful staff, easy communications with the management, scent marketing, and the right background music can make a residential building even more desirable.

Must Read: A Guide to Playing Music in Your Business

In the past years, developers have less recognized the power of music as an opportunity to create the perfect living environment. However, this is changing as we see more and more residential buildings sign up with Jukeboxy Music in recent years. Both the building developers and the management companies realize the advantages of the music, which helps them to be ahead of their competitors and make the building more appealing to their residents.

Research has shown that the food quality is much better when background music matches the atmosphere and target audience in a restaurant. A similar scenario applies to residential buildings. A fitting soundtrack for residential buildings increases people’s perception of that building.

Our experts well explained that How to Increase Sales Using the Right Background Music

background-music-for-residential-building

Adds value to the atmosphere

The lobby of your building is the first impression of a potential renter or buyer. Therefore, the atmosphere, including the decor, the color scheme, the scent, impacts one’s perception of the building as soon as they set foot in the lobby. Your building may have incredible amenities, but those first few minutes in the reception area may impact the decision of a potential future resident.

When you think about how much value background music adds to the atmosphere of a restaurant, shop, or even an office, it’s easy to agree that the same is true for residential buildings.

Creates a positive mood-boosting effect

Music has always been a popular way to cheer up people. It has become an integral part of our culture. People listen to music at work, at home, parties, and in their cars. Almost everywhere. Numerous studies prove that upbeat music improves mood, makes you feel happier instantly, and helps your brain function better.

Why not offer background music to your residents and staff members in the common areas of your residential building? Imagine a resident entering the lobby after a long and stressful day and hearing the music that can instantly change their mood and make them feel at home? Or, think about your staff members who are working tirelessly for long hours to make your residential building a top-notch place to live. Would they be happier in a lobby with no music or with music that can help them be motivated? The short answer is the latter.

Increases the value of your building

Background music alone in your residential building will not increase the value of your building. However, it will support the other aspects of your building and help increase the value.

Many condo buildings use different marketing tools to stay ahead of the game and attract new tenants. These tools are scent marketing, hiring interior designers for common area decorations, or using specific color schemes for different areas. All these combined impacts a potential renter or buyer’s decision. Adding background music to this combination that matches your building’s target market and atmosphere will surely increase the value.

As you can see, there are clear benefits to background music for residential buildings. Let’s discuss the factors to consider when choosing the right music streaming for residential buildings.

music-for-apartment-building

How to choose music streaming for residential buildings?

The first and most important is to develop a soundtrack adapted to the target group of your residential building. For example, music from the 60s to 80s would attract people in their 50s and 60s. If you have a younger target group – under 35 – you’re better off not selecting music from the 1950s. In other words, your target market will help you choose the best music for the building and residents.

Another important aspect is that the music should fit the part of the day. You can play upbeat, cheerful music in the morning and leave the slower, relaxing music for the late afternoon and evening. The volume level of the background music is as important as the choice of music. In residential buildings, the volume level should always be the same regardless of the part of the day. Loud or constantly changing volume levels can disrupt the staff members and won’t be pleasant for the tenants.

If your building has multiple areas that require different types of music, it is crucial to choose a service that can provide you with a multi-zone music streaming option. A cheerful and instrumental music might be a good fit for the lobby, but it’s not the best match for the gym area.

About music licensing

When you play a song at your residential building, it is a public performance. Every time a song starts playing in public spaces, it generates royalty fees for the songwriters, composers, and recording artists. The U.S. Copyright Law requires all establishments to obtain the necessary licenses for the public performance of a song.

The law applies to both recorded and live performances

Copyright owners are entitled to royalty payments each time their song is played in public under this law. In the event of a violation of this law, companies can face fines of tens of thousands of dollars. To prevent hefty fines or, even worse, a lawsuit by a Performing Rights Organization, residential buildings like any other business should always use commercially licensed music service.

Here’s how you can do it.

Choose a reliable business music streaming provider

Firstly, Apple Music, Pandora, Spotify, and Youtube are incompatible with the Copyright Law for business use.

Checkout the guide about music licenses

If you subscribe to one of these services, you get a non-commercial, private use license. What does that mean? It means that you can only use these providers for your own entertainment; at home, in the car, or through your headphones. These services are not for business use and they all mention this in their terms and conditions section.

However, with Jukeboxy, the music at your residential building is fully licensed by ASCAP, BMI, SESAC, and GMR. Jukeboxy takes care of all the necessary licenses on behalf of your company and ensures that your business is 100% compliant with the Copyright Law for music streaming.

With a subscription, besides the commercial licenses, you get access to a vast selection of music, over 45 million song library, and more than 350 playlists.

The ultimate question: What playlist should I create for my residential building?

This question probably still stays in mind after reading the article. We can also address that problem, as the Jukeboxy subscription package includes dedicated support, hundreds of curated playlists, and complimentary consultation for playlist selection.

Background music at restaurants is not a new concept. For many years, small or large, restaurants have been using background music to provide an enjoyable dining experience to their customers. And the practice has become a staple within popular restaurants. Some restaurants stream various music playlists, whereas some tend to have limited offerings. However, many of them fail to do it correctly. Playing a varied music playlist doesn’t mean that it is done right. This article will help you fine-tune the music for your restaurant and explain how you can increase sales with the right music that matches your restaurant’s theme.

Why you should play music in your restaurant – benefits

The concept of your restaurant is what gives your restaurant its identity and uniqueness. For that reason, the restaurant background music should complement that concept. The music can be just as important as your staff, the decor, the atmosphere, or the food.

Researchers analyzed nearly two million transactions from 16 restaurants of known chain restaurants in 2016. The results indicate that restaurants with a carefully selected mix of music representing their culture can increase revenue by more than 9 percent. Another recent research shows that the right music can boost food and drink sales up to 40%. As you can see, the importance of music in restaurants is rising quickly and substantially.

In a separate survey, more than 2000 restaurant guests rated the impact on their experience of brand-specific music versus random after visiting a restaurant. According to the results, guests’ satisfaction and well-being increased when they listened to brand-fit music compared to random popular music. Furthermore, getting your brand’s music wrong or inappropriate can reduce overall sales by 4%, according to the industry blog FastCasual.com. Isn’t it incredible how much impact the music has on consumption? When choosing the background music for a restaurant, owners and general managers should not ignore these numbers.

How to increase sales

When you walk into a restaurant, you’re not just there to eat. You’re there for the ambiance, the atmosphere, the music, and the food. The branding and marketing strategies that high-end restaurants use affect how we consume food and make us repeatedly go back to their restaurants and restaurant background music. Let’s discuss these techniques, which will help you retain customers and increase sales.

Bonus Read: Does Music Increase Business Sales?

Music and Sense of Taste

Did you know that music can affect our sense of taste? Research suggests that sound has a significant impact on how we perceive flavors. For example, high-pitch sounds are associated with sweetness, whereas low-pitch sounds bring out a bitter taste.

Famous and high-end restaurants use this knowledge and create a playlist schedule that will impact food consumption – to their advantage.

Soft and melodic tunes have a calming effect on people, and when this type of genre is playing, people seem to be more relaxed and enjoy the food for longer and better. On the other hand, when loud and energetic music plays, it rushes people to eat quickly and with less taste.

To retain and bring more customers, you need to choose the music that complements both the atmosphere and the food.

Keep an eye on the volume

Always make sure to pay attention to the volume, no matter what kind of music your restaurant plays. In most restaurants, the noise level should not exceed 70 decibels (including ambient sound), while more vibrant bars can play the music that’s between 75 and 80 decibels comfortably. You want to choose a decibel level that is pleasant for your customers and employees. You can turn up the music in your restaurant if it serves late-night food or drinks (especially if it has a dance floor). Paying attention to how your guests interact with the music will help you to adjust the volume level when needed.

You should keep the background music in the background if you’re primarily a sit-down dinner type of restaurant. As mentioned above, studies have shown that guests cannot perceive sweetness and saltiness when the music is too loud and can have a negative impact on their experience.

Background music playlist

Speed and tempo

The first question you should answer is, “Do I want to improve the table turnover rate, or do I want people to stay longer and spend more on high-priced items?”

If you prefer more people in and out quickly, you need to play faced-paced music at a louder volume, which is a proven table turnover trick. Studies show that people eat faster, drink more, and leave sooner. On the other hand, when classical music or soft instrumental music is played, dinners tend to order more on high-priced food and beverages, like a vintage bottle of wine. However, they also stay longer.

Determining what you want to achieve will help you reach your goal faster with the right speed and tempo music. Additionally, you may choose to use both techniques to achieve different purposes throughout the day.

The music should fit the time of the day

To summarise the previous two points, restaurants should use a slower tempo and lower volume background music to achieve higher sales through high-priced items. To maximize sales by improving the table turnover rate, slightly louder and faster tempo music is suggested.

Another critical aspect of the restaurant background music is matching the music with the time of the day. Playing energetic and high-tempo music during early hours for breakfast time may displease your customers.

For lunch rush and early afternoon, slightly energetic, fun, and light tunes in the restaurant background will most certainly please the crowd. Lunch hours, especially during the weekdays, are for business meetings or to catch up with friends. People need to have comfortable conversations during these times.

Play vibrant, instrumental music or indie selections that complement a fun, hip atmosphere during weekday evenings between 5:00 and 7:00 p.m

After work, your restaurant will be more popular since people can come for a drink and take a break. At dinnertime, you can try to change the music to match the ambiance you want to achieve. Put yourself in the shoes of your customers and think about what you want to convey. Classic rock and jazz playlists are often the right choices. Playing upbeat music at your late-night restaurant will keep your customers entertained and encourage them to stay and spend more.

Avoid leaving it to your team

Restaurants are known to be busy at most times. Taking care of your customers and preparing high-quality food does not leave you or your team much time to create playlists.

Premade playlists are easy to use. You can even schedule the music ahead of time for the week and for different times of the day. It will allow your staff to focus on their jobs without worrying about what to play next and provide your customers with an excellent service.

music streaming provider

Choose the best business music streaming provider

When you subscribe to Spotify or Pandora, you may think that you can use these services to stream music over the loudspeakers in your restaurant, aren’t you? Unfortunately, that’s not the case. All businesses, including restaurants, are required to stream music that is licensed for business use. Spotify, Pandora, or any other personal use music service will not cover your music licenses for commercial use.

Streaming copyrighted music in your restaurant without paying the necessary licensing fees could lead to severe fines and penalties.

SESAC, BMI, ASCAP, and GMR are the four Publishers Rights Organizations (PROs) in the United States. Each represents different artists and musical works, and you have to pay a fee to gain access to their music. Depending on the size of your venue and how frequently you play music, your licensing fee will differ and can be costly.

What is the simplest solution that is legal and doesn’t cost thousands of dollars in license fees? Jukeboxy.com!

  • $24.99 / month
  • 45+ million songs
  • music licenses for business use included
  • hundreds of curated playlists

Music is a great way to improve mood, promote teamwork, and create a more positive work environment. And more importantly, if you’re a business owner, it can help you attract more customers. Background music is one of those elements that some people think it’s not a necessity. However, background music in business can make – or break – a shopping experience.

Let’s check out the statistics

  • In general, 84% of people believe that background music creates a positive atmosphere.
  • 90% of customers would choose a music-playing store over one without.
  • In a survey, 69% of consumers said playing pop music improved their shopping experience in-store, while 64% said playing rock music improved it.
  • According to one research, 77% of businesses believe their staff is more productive with overhead music.
  • Compared to a random music, a brand-fit soundtrack increases sales by an average of 37%.
  • When a random mix of hits played, the sales reduced by 4.3% compared to no music at all.

Reasons why playing the right music will benefit your retail business

Customers are more likely to return when the music is right

Research shows that when the music matches the brand, the consumer will remember the brand, and 31% of customers would return to a business if the music was right.

Reduces the perceived wait time

When it comes to your store, silence can make waiting in line seem like it lasts forever, just as silence makes a phone hold time seem longer.

Increases the time customers spend in stores

Music in your store has the effect of retaining customers for longer. In addition to filling the space, it enhances the comfort of the environment. A recent study shows that when music was playing in a store, customers stayed for nearly 42% longer.

Has an impact on shopping speed

Music with fast tempos encourages customers to move faster and buy faster, while slow music makes them shop in a slower pace. When choosing the soundtrack in your business, it’s a good idea to determine how quickly you want your customers to shop.

Music conceals the voices and movements around

Background music helps retail shops to create personal space for their customers by masking the movements of other shoppers and the staff. According to the experts, the best background music for retail shops is when the consumer doesn’t remember what was playing. It means that it wasn’t intrusive, loud, or annoying, but it was pleasant to shop around.

Improves employee productivity

In-store music is not just for consumers; it has a direct effect on the employees as well. You can boost employee motivation, concentration, and productivity with a successful music strategy.

How to get it right?

Choosing the right music that fits your brand

The type of background music in businesses can trigger specific purchases. Purchasing more expensive items was found to be influenced by classical music, for example. The reason could be that classical music elevates feelings of quality and elegance, thus influencing purchasing decisions. Consider playing classical tunes as background music for a high-end retail store. According to a published study, more French wines were sold when French music was playing in a wine store. It was surprising to learn that the shoppers had no idea that the music affected their wine choices.

Your playlists should appeal to your target audience

Find the soundtrack that best matches your brand and explore further by understanding your consumer base. Think about how the background music will affect your target audience. Your background music playlist should include songs and sounds relevant to your ideal shopper’s preferences and interests. You should choose the music playlists based on their tastes and eliminate the songs or genres that aren’t appropriate.

According to another study, consumers in grocery stores who heard slower music purchased more items than those shopping with fast music. When the music was in a minor key, they spent even more. Do you have a music strategy that supports your specific sales goals?

Integrated overhead messaging provides seamless communication

You can include branded audio messaging in addition to the background music in your retail store. Strategic overhead messages can maximize your sales goals. With in-store audio message advertising you can:

  • Inform your shoppers about sales and specials
  • Promote your products and services
  • Highlight specific departments

Things to avoid

Avoid using your personal playlists

Choosing your store’s music based on your personal preferences is a bad idea. While you enjoy a particular style of music, it doesn’t mean that it is the right choice for your shoppers. Also, you should make sure that the employees and store managers don’t change the music based on their personal musical tastes. Customer preferences always determine the best background music for your store. Let them hear what they want.

Avoid frustrating your staff with repetitive music

Your customers’ favorite shopping music should be your top priority. However, it would be best if you also considered the mood of your employees. Your store staff is subject to overhead music for a long period of time. Your store may suffer from poor performance when it plays repetitive and unpleasant music for your team.

Avoid using music services that are not licensed for business use

It’s important to know that it’s illegal to broadcast music in public places like a store without a specific license. Therefore, business establishments are prohibited from using personal music services such as Spotify, Pandora, and Apple Music. Doing so can lead to severe penalties, such as monetary fines up to a hundred thousand dollars.

Need to know: legal and licensing

Music copyright laws are strict for any public performance of a published work. When you stream music using a computer or an app, you might not think your business is publicly performing music. However, the legal definition of public performance includes any instance of that song being played publicly before a significant number of people.

Public Performance Licenses (PPL) are required to play music in public where customers and employees are present. How can you obtain this PPL license through the easiest and most cost-effective way to play music legally in your store? The answer is Jukeboxy – a commercially licensed music streaming service provider

Background music in Hotel is an integral part of a hotel’s brand identity, but many hotels aren’t aren’t using background music to their full advantage. If usеd strategically, the music played in your hotel can have a positive effect on your customers. It can also influence their decision to stay ther there again in future and spread word-of-mouth recommendations. But the music has to be coherent with the theme of the types of guests that the types of guests that the hotel is looking to attract.

Different Types of Hotels Require Different Types of Music

It wouldn’t make sense to play upbeat dance music in your hotel lobby when your target demographic is the older generation looking to spend a peaceful spa weekend in a relaxing atmosphere. Different types of hotels require different types of music and the mood of the hotelmay change based on the time of the day or the area that you’re in. So essentially, the music that you play will need to reflect the atmosphere that you trying to create for your guests and there isn’t a “one-size-fits-all” playlist. And getting it wrong, can severely disturb your guests’ experience (as documented by the number of bad reviews on TripAdvisor complaining about the hotel’s poor choice in music).

Many urban hotels in metropolitan areas are trying to appeal to the millennial generation who are swiftly becoming a hugely influential demographic. The right music can encourage guests to linger in public areas and spend money on drinks and snacks offered by the hotel instead of taking their business elsewhere.

According to Music Works (the joint research initiative between PPL and PRS for Music):

75% of hotel quests like to hear music in the lobbies, bars, restaurants and public spaces.
78% of people who like music in hotels agree that it makes them feel more relaxed.
61% of regular hotel guests are more likely to consume more food and drink when they hear music they like in a hotel.
55% of people who like music in hotels prefer to meet colleagues or clients where good hotel music is being played.

The objective of any hotels is to maximize the profits made on-site beyond just accommodation booking and improving customer loyalty. For that reason, hotels often contain a restaurant, spa, gym, bar and a pool area. Music is a massively important element in making your guests feel comfortable enough to stay on the hotel premises. Therefore, music played at your restaurant or bar can influence restaurant sales and your customers’ dining behaviour.

What Music Should You Play In A Hotel?

The decision on what sort of music you should play in a hotel depends largely on the hotel. For hotels that are looking to attract a broad range of guests, generic music with mass appeal will work the best. Stay far away from polarizing styles of music such as hip-hop and electronic. Although both genres are great genres to play in retail shops and venues, it can be extremely off for the majority of your hotel guests.

In this respect, boutique hotels will have the upper hand as they tend to have a far more focused idea of what their guests will expect from staying at that hotel. Whether they’re a luxury boutique hotel, mid-range or budget hotel.

Boutique hotels are able to distinguish themselves from the larger chain hotels by establishing a unique style of brand. Through aesthetics and atmosphere (including the background music), they can use that branding to target a certain type of guest.

Chain hotels may struggle to do this so easily as there needs to be some consistency from site to site. For that reaseon, a generic approach commonly works best. But that doesn’t mean that music is any less important of a factor in creating a great hotel atmosphere. A lot of thoughy does have to go into the music played to be appropriate across all sites.

Background Music in Hotel: Playing Different Music in Different Areas in a Hotel

Hoteliers can tailor the musical experience for different types of guests by identifying the different objectives of each area of the hotel and designing a music profile to enhance the atmosphere of that area.

In the hotel reception, the background music tends to be quite subtle. Never loud or intrusive, but calm and pleasant. It should welcome new guests into the hotel and ease the transition between lobby to the different areas that branch off.

For themed hotels, the hotel reception music offers the perfect opportunity to introduce the theme to guests. Tropical sounds for a rainforest theme hotel, pan flutes for South American themed hotels, and so on. The iconic Hard Rock Hotel is quite possibly the best example of a themed hotel that uses music effectively to connect whit their guests.

In public spaces of the hotel with a more precise purpose, such as a bar or social area, the music will usually be upbeat and encourage a positive social atmosphere. But the genre of music, again, will depend on the hotel. From generic pop, to more sophisticated lounge music that enhances that luxurious atmosphere, and even grunge or rock if it suits that particular hotel’s guests. But the pattern between them all is, the music is usually upbeat and encourages conversation.

In a hotel spa, you want to keep the background music gentle and light. The music needs to soothe your guests, and keep them calm and relaxed. It needs to be consistent and comforting, with no unexpected changes in style, to enhance your guests’ spa experience. The music played will be a complete contrast to the high tempo music you’ll be playing in the hotel gym.

Did you know that plants grow faster when they hear music? In fact, a study by South Korean scientists at National Institute of Agricultural Biotechnology suggests that plants can hear because they have the “genes”.

If you have plants in your office or own a flower shop, play some music in your business and watch how fast your plants grow.

Sound and Plant Growth

Research suggests that any sound, including music, helps plant growth. How? Vibrations from the sound waves stimulate growth factors in plants and also warn them from the predators. Remember the days when your mom was talking to the plants and you were wondering what is wrong with her? Apparently, she was perfectly fine. Moms always know better!

Music and Plant Growth

South Korean scientists at National Institute of Agricultural Biotechnology played classical music in rice fields and discovered that the crops grew faster.

In another research, a group of plants were exposed to six hours of music and others were in a quiet room. The plants in “music room” grew faster than the “quiet room” plants.

It’s not necessarily the music that makes the plants grow faster. It’s the vibration from the sound waves, all sorts of sound, as mentioned above. However, isn’t it better if they hear music then not so pleasant sounds like cars, people walking around, etc.? Also, why leave them quiet when the nursery is closed? Play some music during off-hours in the nursery and watch how fast the plants grow.

Interesting Fact: Plants like having plant friends around!

It seems like, plants communicate with each other and listen to the vibrations of other plants. They grow healthier and faster when they have plant friends around. Also, research suggests that plants may let other plants know of danger around them like leaf eating insects. When other plants receive the “heads up”, they may stop growing until they deem it is safe to grow again. Isn’t it magnificent?

With his song “Old Town Road” featuring Billy Ray Cyrus, Lil Nas X has been breaking records since it was released earlier this year. In April, it was announced that the hit song had over 143 million streams in the US alone which broke Drake’s streaming record for his song “In My Feelings”.

Just 2 days ago on July 29th, he officially made Billboard’s chart history, breaking the record of Mariah Carey and Boyz II Men’s “One Sweet Day” by staying on top of the chart for solid 17 weeks. He also broke the record of 2017’s “Despacito” by Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee, featuring Justin Bieber which made the top of the chart for 16 weeks.

A day after the news broke, Mariah Carey posted an Instagram post congratulating the young star.

Since the song was released, it has been a discussion in Jukeboxy Music offices whether it was a Rap or a Country song, some suggested it was a Southern hip-hop song. The answer came from the artist himself that he regards the song as a “Country Trap” genre. Country Trap it is!

Jukeboxy was one of the first commercial music streaming service that included the song in its playlists when it came out in December, 2018. Since then it’s one of the top songs that gets the “like” on our Jukeboxy Manager App which includes the liked songs in our customers’ private playlists. Don’t like a song? Jukeboxy Music for Business offers song, artist and genre exclusion as well.

Keep up the good work Lil Nas X and big congratulations!
